United Tissue Resources (UTR) sees our responsibility to the men and women of the military, as an extension of our mission to the larger community. Servicemen and women are first and foremost, people. As we work to protect the integrity of the grafts distributed throughout our territory, it is our responsibility to do the same for those in uniform. It is their needs that make them unique.
Allograft tissue may be used to restore functionality to wounded warriors. Grafts of skin, bone, tendons and veins, may all impact a soldier’s ability to return to the type of civilian life that they envision for themselves.
Soldiers are also heroes at home. As part of our donor community, their desire to serve drives many to register as organ, eye and tissue donors. Their final act of courage is often to give the gift of life to waiting recipients. They save lives both stateside and abroad. This act is often recognized by the “Heroes Walk”, a ceremony in which a former soldier’s body is draped in an American flag and walked out of the hospital as hospital staff lines the halls.
Whether their sense of duty calls for them to need tissue or to be a donor-hero, we at UTR recognize the exemplary spirit of service displayed, by our men and women in uniform.
